Universal is going to re-reboot The Mummy. Not the that Mummy. The Brendan Fraser vehicle. As a friend said, “I’m too young for Hollywood to be destroying my childhood.”
After reading Spaihts’ plans for the reboot, an excited Universal went ahead and optioned a reboot of the reboot of the reboot, with a possible reboot of the reboot of the reboot of the reboot to be rebooted later.
Boooooooooooo. I loved the retro charm of the 1999 Mummy film. Maybe I’d understand rebooting this reboot if it were a bad film, but The Mummy is probably somewhere very close to being in my top 5 favorite films.
I reserve the right to change my mind depending upon who they tap to handle the creative side of this movie, but for now I’m pretty bummed.
I want to say that it can’t possibly be any worse than the one from a few years ago, but something tells me they’ll find...
