Trailer: Les Miserables - Dec 14
Directed by Tom Hooper, starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Sacha Baron Cohen, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Samantha Barks, and Aaron Tveit.
This trailer does an excellent job of conveying at once intimacy and grand scale. On that level, it’s impressive what Hooper has been able to pull off with so little time and footage. Some may criticize Hathaway’s singing, but it’s working within the dramatics of the song and the moment. That said, this is playing to its audience (musical fans, Oscar bait fans) and I’m not sure how attractive it will be to a more regular movie goer.

Excitement.
While some may be confused by the confused by the casting of relative unknown Samantha Barks as the popular Eponine (seen in the trailer looking all angsty and hot in the pouring rain), but to assuage your fears, I suggest you watch this video and skip to the 3:30 ish mark to hear an explosion of beautiful sound. The moment she starts singing I immediately fell in love.
