Florence and the Machine - Shake It Out
i am unhealthily excited for this album. and this track is beastly.
also, i have to leave at four am tomorrow morning to catch a flight and i anticipate listening this on repeat to keep me awake because i’ll keep having to crank the volume and sing along.
I actually heard “What The Water Gave Me” on the radio recently and I got very excited. I think I love this song more though. More upbeat and catchy. Definitely looking forward to the new album.

A contender for the title of “sexiest fucking song that I’ve ever heard”. The whole damn song is about desire that transforms you into an animal bent on devouring the prey you want to taste so badly that you feel the need to cry out in the night. And then on top of that, Florence Welch just has a voice that always winds me up so tightly that I fear that I might burst.
It’s just downright indecent.

Florence + the Machine // Spectrum
I am really looking forward to this new album. It’s practically criminal how sexy this woman’s voice is. And good lord - This song involves repeated use of the phrase “say my name”. I’ll gladly do whatever you like, Ms. Welch, if it means that you’ll keep producing songs like these.
The new album’s out on November 1st. We’ll see if I’ll be able to wait that long.

All This and Heaven Too - Florence and the Machine
Perhaps my favorite song off of the new album so far. I’ve had this entry open for a while trying to figure out what to say. This is ironic considering the lyrics of the song as it deals with how difficult it is to find the right words to describe how one feels. It mentions the shortcomings of language and how incomprehensible abstract emotions are in general.
Regardless of this flowery bullshittery, if you’d rather listen to a song with your ears instead of your brain, it’s also just a beautiful song.

Gun to my head, I would probably say that Florence + the Machine is my favorite band right now. Her voice just melts me into a puddle of Allison whenever I hear it.

Now, Florence and the Machine does some really amazing covers, but this one is my hands down favorite so far. It may have started off Drake and Rihanna, but this cover is all Florence.
I like that at the beginning she seems quite adorable in her modest admiration for the song, but as soon as the music starts something changes. The sex grenade that is her voice explodes and it’s all eye fucking (alert your physician at the 2:57 mark) and microphone caressing from then on. Just. Damn.
Edit: Also just learned that the orignal song also owes a dept to a remix by Jamie of The XX. So there’s another artist I admire attached to this awesome song.

Florence Welch is not of this earth.
Force of nature is a term that is overused to describe her talent (seriously, I googled her name and “force of nature” and over nine hundred thousand results were returned) but damn, if it ain’t fitting. If it’s overused it’s merely because when she starts to perform you can feel it like wind that slams you in the chest or rain that chills you to your bones.
